AOC-John-Berryman

A subtle shift of bone beneath reddened skin:
Pock-marked in places, Henry oscillates a mood-wave
Between a grimace of enthusiasm and reactive misery.
Alone in a crowd and dissolving into misty dream states,
As his consciousness thickens to a paste of confusion,
He meditates on a morbid wish for numbness.

Henry cultivates a rambunctious beard.
‘This is most unseemly’ says Mr Bones.
‘I think you have misplaced your ethics,
And your proclivities are as problematic
Starting with the alcoholism and then the drugs
Which ripple out from your unwholesome impulsivity’

Henry drinks from the event horizon of literary glory,
Then vomits a kaleidoscope abstract onto his shirt.
He is luminous in the pantheon of beautiful screw-ups
But spasms of salience and mystery are seldom rewarded with happiness.
Sooner than is fair he will suffer like a dog-turd underfoot again,
And long for the blessed suction of the infinite void of nonexistence.

You turn me on

You smoke a bong

You bend me out

You are a lout

You break me down

You spin me round

You trip me up

You steal my cup

You funnel me through

You break me blue

You frenzy my penguins

You crack me open

You dance me dead

You fuck with my head

You encompass my accidents

You scramble my sentiments

You embrace my ravings

You focus my cravings

You tremble my bones

You hog all my cones

Nothing means anything
Monkey puzzler with
Your dumb ape wisdom
And banana brain
Covered in fur with
Much hair on the gonads

Swing from the trees
Express dominance
Make gibbon noises
And soon you will see
A hairy ape who knows no fear
A knobby ape who knows no bones
Enlivens many jungles

Teenage kicks and hooligan hijinks
Drunken vandalism
Graffiti thrashed on walls

Sitck it
In your arm
Draw a bubble of blood

Don’t break
Your fragile bones
When stumbling

Mobile phones
Hypnotize masses
Like Dynamo

Shit stains in underpants
Time to do the washing

Erotic psycho-frenzy
Pants down for action

Gorgeous ass
Wobbles
Like a jelly melon

Your porcelain smile
Escalates me
For the moment

Light that cone
Inhale smoke
Cough

some pass cars
some make passes
I pass gas

Cigarettes like time
Thoughts like conversation
Tranquility

clowncorpse

Corpse of a clown
Face without eyes
Deadweight diatribe against earth magic
Maudlin musing about nocturnal naughtiness
Dead grey foetus in a rubbish bin
Dead eyed optimism
Dead eyed consumerism
Corpse of a chorus girl
Makeup blurred, legs spread
Paranoia, Paranoia
Meanwhile many at the old folks home are
Entranced by the possibility of a quiet death
A quick death
Sacrificial mechanisms confound and confuse
And Paranoia seeps in
Encrusted with schadenfreude
Beaten to a spaghetti consistency
Squeezed through skull
Aching for cold lips
Of death kiss
Corpse of Marilyn Monroe
Necrophilia
Paranoia, Paranoia
Eyeball sliced like an egg
Eye-juice oozes
Poison gas pass-times eat away the soul
Napalm nightmares blaze across the cranium
Paranoia, Paranoia
Road-kill retro-action to circumvent cynicism
Squashed cat somnambulism
Body-bag of broken bones
Corpse of a junkie
Fantasy zombie collapses
Cold in a corner
Paranoia, Paranoia
Rigour mortis
Statue of the living
Physical indelible memory
Every corpse like a leaf in the wind
And a cell in the body of the grim reaper

seven

Morning time four am
Seven rows of teeth
Want a black void
Black as boots
Black as the death of a child

Evening time six pm
Seven bloodshot eyes in fur
Want total totalitarianism
Blood on the streets
And blood in the mouth

Morning time five am
Seven horns of brass
Want a valley full of bones
Slowly reducing to dust
And symbolising the future for all

Evening Time eleven pm
Seven wan but wonderful women
Swoon into the arms of a stereotypical man
Entwine lips in a profound kiss
And know that they are loved

Morning time five am
Seven sexy succubuses
Want to suck out my chi sexually
But the moment of sexual release
Will be worth death

Evening time eight pm
Seven diamond encrusted celebrities
Want so much to be alone
But are stalked by paparazzi and publicists
Until they OD on adoration

Morning time seven am
Seven lonely cleaners
Want to be delivered from their suffering
Earn barely enough to pay the rent
And dream of wealth and education

christ
Twist a string of beads
Around a witch’s waist
Build a crappy tent of bulbous bones
Against the rabid rain

Which pelts poison in your brain
And soon drives you electrically insane
Nerve toxins in the neurons
Birthing paralytic rictus
And quasi simian spasticity

Beat a rubber eel upon a warlock’s wobbly bits
Signify a morbid mountain of madness
Spit upon the surfaces of suppurating melancholy
Dance into the crack within the nothing
Like a stoned fool on smack
They’ll never want you back
Until all is black as boots and empty

Taste a poxy potion of hallucinatory mushrooms
See Christ crucified with the head of a Beast
See the many horns and eyes of the beast
See the real Christ crucified in pulsating pain
See the wood of the cross multiplying across Europe
See the Shroud of Tourin photocopying a saviour
See Christ crucified on every tree
And every tree a Bible
See towering cathedrals of light hidden from mortal retinas
Fractal kaleidoscopic sun structures of infinite intricacy
Bedazzling and befuddling desperately then
Faces without eyes emerge from the void
Like fungus growing from a corpse

Flashes of spark-light phosphorescence against the windows of the skull
Mad carousing reptiles wrap their bodies around a totem pole
Wood hacked to grinning skulls piled to heaven vertical
Fire flickers and the children of light dance their circle
Drums beat a rumbling rhythm that hypnotizes
Summoning old Spirits to bring in a new age

IMG_3764 Hierapolis, the necropolis

Mouldy loam envelopes bones
Alone and cold like a dead frog
Soaked in ghosts and maudlin memory
Rot and worms and festering bone dreams

Under drooping trees, topped with moist graceful grass
In a hoary necropolis with legions of dead
A skeleton waits for resurrection
Humble bones longing for new flesh

No stone marks the place of the bones
Too poor to afford a tombstone or plaque
Unremarkable life, unremarkable death
Mediocre till his last breath

The soil is weighing heavy and pervasive
Wood of the coffin rots into earth
The bones all alone while sun spears sky
Just like the other bones waiting to die

rohingya

We are the least of human beings
Less human than the dirt beneath your feet
We are unloved and persecuted
From birth to unremarkable death
The Buddhists lock us in a ghetto
Unless we have the money to bribe them
If we have no money they beat us
There is no food
There is no water
There is no school for the children
There is no hope
They took us from our village
Those that the Buddhists didn’t kill
And locked us up next to the sea
Hanging off the land in a noose of persecution
Then the people smugglers come
And offer to take us away
And we have no choice
We give them what little we have
We spend hungry, thirsty days at sea
Then we arrive in Thailand near the border
The people-smugglers begin to torture us with bamboo
They tell us to call our relatives and ask for money they don’t have
Then if they do not pay up we are dead
Our women are raped and murdered, our men and children are murdered
Our ghosts will wail among our bones
Our ghosts will watch you while you sleep

Bury me deep

grave
Bury me deep where worms are feeding
Streetlights burn pale green
Bury me where virgins are bleeding
At my funeral play Ween

Bury me deep where the worms are feeding
Where the soil is moist and cold
Forgive my ghost and my memory’s ghosts
At least I was never old

Bury me deep where the worms are feeding
Maggots are my friends
Let me desiccate and rot to bones
Now pain is at an end

Bury me deep where the worms are feeding
Jesus is now my friend
Let me fester the ground till hell rains down
And the earth begins to bend.
