When I was in a band

We thought we were going to be famous

And snort cocaine out of groupies’ butt cracks

Get married to some hot models

Or maybe Winona Ryder

And take an amount of drugs that would scare the shit out of Keith Richards

We had a go at doing the drugs

One time we even got paid in Morphine

And pretended to be Lou Reed

Many times I was kicked out of my own gigs

Drunk off my head and acting like a lunatic

So I didn’t have much luck with the women

‘Cos I was too fat and weird

We always did well with the bizarre guys with dreadlocks at the back of the bar

‘Who would love our silly pot songs

And ridiculous attempts to channel Iggy Pop

When the band broke up

‘Cos the other members started breeding

I was sad

Half a point of ice and twenty milligrams of morphine
Is a pleasing combination
Stick it in your arm it will do you no harm
There’s nothing like that moment
When the blood squirts into the syringe and I know I’ve hit the vein
Then I push down the plunger
A hurricane candy rush shoots up my veins and into my brain
Sweet tingling all over my body
Feel like I’m flying and sinking at the same time
Sinking into the opiate mind-bath while buzzing from the speed
Chemical kicks in the succulent moon-light
Pharmacological fun-times on a Friday afternoon
Let it rush over me
Let it rush through me
Then it’s time for a cone
Warm fuzzy marijuana mind-blur breaks over my consciousness
And the cocktail is complete

argument
On the telephone my friends are fighting over a morphine tab
It’s fucked up to fight over drugs
Drugs should be about fun and companionship and crazy ass-shaking hijinks
About kicks, and joy and riding the highway of life at staggering speed wearing ironic trousers
She’s hearing voices and is freaking out- schizophrenia hacking into her soul
Whispers from the center of her brain that seem to come from outside
She’s kicked him in the balls
He’s hit her in the head
A squalid caricature of domestic violence and paranoia
You always hurt the one you love,
Intimately
